Can't believe where 2017 has taken us... The organization continues to grow.. We held two gatherings this year. The first was in Almira, Michigan where over 75 attendees gathered to share a picnic. The second was in Calais, Vermont (very similar to last year. At each event, books were created to share the descendants of that particular area. Books were given to local libraries and historical societies to promote the story. The books were published with funds from the organization.
I met with Mendon and Upton, Massachusett's historical societies to start a relation ship with them. The Mendon Historical Society is moving their museum from their current location to a larger one. I'm looking to propose to create a museum for Wheelock descendants in the old location.
We continue to raise funds for a monument in tribute to Ralph and Rebecca Wheelock and their descendants who are without marker in the Vine Lake Cemetery in Medfield, Massachusetts. $1245 so far.
Fundraising continues by selling published books on eBay and individual contributions. Shell Oil Products is donating $7500 to our organization. Thank you!!
What does 2018 hold for us? Three events are in the works in 2018. The folks in Southern Michigan saw how successfull the Almira gathering was and asked for us to organize one for 2018. On Sunday, July 15th, there will be a picnic in Lansing, Michigan. The specific location is yet to be determined.
The organization will be making their first appearance at Medfield's Founders Day September 15th to promote "The Story."
Calais, Vermont is changing their Founders Day from September to October to attract the leaf peepers. We'll be there too..
Hope that friends and fellow descendants can make it to one of the events. If not, perhaps we can create one in you region of the country. Welcome 2018!!
